Greenbush La Leche League

La Leche League Mission

The mission of La Leche League International (LLLI) is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

La Leche League Philosophy

The basic philosophy of La Leche League is summarized in the following 10 statements:

  • Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.
  • Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.
  • In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother which is as basic as his need for food.
  • Human milk is the natural food for babies, uniquely meeting their changing needs.
  • For the healthy, full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the first year after birth.
  • Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need.
  • Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.
  • Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy.
  • Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.
  • From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.

I am the mother of three boys, aged 7, 5, and almost 2 years. I have lived in this area since entering college in 2000 and I have been attending La Leche League meetings since 2009. I love my busy life of snuggling kids, reading them books, and taking them to story time, karate, and dance class. As a family, we enjoy hiking, visiting museums, and doing science projects together. In my (minimal) free time, I love to read.

Haley 518-755-8713

I am the mother of two gorgeous little girls, ages 8 and 2. Our family is constantly moving and the girls keep us very busy. We have been in the NY area for just about 3 years and for almost 2 of them, I have been attending La Leche League meetings and through meetings I have found continued support and met some of my greatest friends. As a leader, I look forward to being able to support and educate many more mothers to come.

LLL came into my life when our first child was born prematurely and was unable to nurse. The caring, knowledge, and loving support my son and I received from strangers still move my heart. Leadership started out as a way to give back; however, our family, now five grown children and seven young grandsons, has been the big winner. Breastfeeding made it easier for me to learn to read each child's personality, body language, and needs, and then LLL's Loving Guidance philosophy and example helped me encourage each one to develop in his or her own unique yet self-disciplined way. The close ties they all share today are greater than John and I had dreamed could happen when we started this journey called Parenthood.

Heather 518-209-6465

Hi my name is Heather. I have three girls, ages 5, 3, and 9 months. I have lived in upstate New York my entire life. When I am not concentrating on chasing my three kids around and having fun with them, I love to crochet, read, and stay up to date on anything related to science. My family enjoys going to the park, reading, and dancing around in our living room. I began coming to La Leche League meetings when my second daughter was about 15 months to meet other like minded mother's. I decided to become a leader so that I could help and encourage other moms to meet their breastfeeding and parenting goals.

Cara 925-989-9748

My name is Cara and I am the mother of a spirited, active, smart, 5-year-old girl, who is very excited to become a Big Sister in early February 2017! We are an active family and we enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, cooking, running, traveling and simply spending time together. We moved to the Capital Region of NY from Northern California about 2 years ago and I started attending La Leche League meetings in January 2016. At LLL, I have found an amazing network of women who offer the kind of support and friendship any mom needs. As a Leader, I hope to encourage and educate other breastfeeding families and help support the development of happy, healthy little ones!

Kasandra 518-322-7720

I am the mother of a very active 4-year-old boy. I have lived in the Capital Region since entering college at the University at Albany in 2002. We love to camp, fish, kayak and read when we can't be outdoors. I started attending La Leche League meetings when my son was 10 weeks old to help build my support network of other mothers. I became a leader hoping to give back some of the support and help I've received from the organization over the years.
